Red Wine Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

As Valentine’s Day approaches I wanted to do something special but a little different for my husband. After a little research I came up with this. Almost everyone loves chocolate and strawberries but again I wanted to elevate it and make it different. So I added our favorite Fine Red Wine to the mix, and made Red Wine Chocolate Dipped Strawberries.

Here’s what you need:

Strawberries in glass of red wine

      Ingredients:

  • Bottle of Red Wine ( I prefer the Paso Robles More Than Muse Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 8-12 Strawberries
  • 2 bars Ghiradelli Premium Baking Chocolate Dark or Milk
  • 2 Bars Premium baking White Chocolate ( if making Tuxedo Strawberries)

Equipment:

  • Bowl or Glass for soaking Strawberries
  • Sieve or Colander
  • Paper Towels
  • Double Boiler ( I used a sauce pot with a metal mixing bowl it works just as well)
  • Wax or Parchment Paper
  • Icing Bag or Ziplock Bag

Once you’ve gathered everything you need you can get started.

  1. Wash the Strawberries and get them dried off.
  2. Then  you want to place the Strawberries in a Glass or Bowl and cover with your Red Wine. Let them soak for 2-4 hours. I placed mine in the fridge to keep them fresh.
  3. After you’ve soaked the strawberries pour them into a Sieve or Colander over another Bowl. ( Trust me you’re going to want that Wine that they’ve been soaking in, because it’s delicious!)
  4. While the Strawberries are draining get your double boiler ready. Fill a little less than halfway with water and place the top part of the boiler on the pot (or metal mixing bowl) and add Chocolate.
  5. While you’re waiting for the chocolate to melt, use a paper towel to dry off the Strawberries. This will allow the Chocolate to stick.
  6.  Once the Chocolate is melted,(don’t let the chocolate boil, you want it to be just melted.) Turn off the burner so it doesn’t get too hot and ruin the strawberries. If you’re making Tuxedo Strawberries dip the Strawberries in the grab the stem of the strawberry and dip in the White Chocolate just before the top of the Strawberry. If you’re making Plain chocolate dipped strawberries follow the same directions. (And maybe pour the leftover Wine into a glass!)

  1. Place on your wax paper or parchment paper to cool and allow the Chocolate to cool. For Tuxedo Strawberries I place them in the fridge for about 15-20 Minutes.
  2. Once the Chocolate has cooled and hardened now you can enjoy it if you are making  plain dipped strawberries or start the Tuxedo design.
  3. Prepare the Dark or Milk Chocolate in your double boiler.
  4. Once melted Dip the Strawberries at an angle. You want to leave a triangle of the White Chocolate showing on the front of the strawberry to make it look like a Tuxedo. Place on your wax or parchment paper with the white part of the Strawberry facing up.
  5.  Then fill your icing bag or Ziplock bag with some of the Dark or Milk Chocolate. If using a ziplock bag cut a tiny hole in the corner.
  6. Use Your bag to place 2-3 small dots ( Buttons) on the Exposed White Chocolate part of the Strawberries.
  7. Then place in the fridge and allow to cool and harden for about 20-30 minutes.
  8. Once completely cool enjoy with the rest of your Fine Wine!
